STAFFING ------------------------
The staffing position of the department stands at six (6) full-time lecturers who are M. A. holders. Three (3) full-time instructors – one is a B. A. holder and two are HND holders. One (1) part-time instructor, also an HND holder.
PROGRAMMES/COURSES -------------
The department offers HND in Fashion Design and Textiles as well as Advanced Fashion, a Non-HND programme. The department currently has student population of 235 as against 182 the previous year.
NUFFIC PROJECT ----------------------
The department is pride with a Dutch-government-funded project, code name ‘Building Capacity at Accra Polytechnic to Strengthen Fashion Design Education in Ghana’. The project design includes reviewing curriculum, designing of programmes to upgrade staff, practical training and industrial attachment for staff locally and abroad; the rest are the provision of materials and equipment and leadership - management capacity building.
Utrecht School of the Arts, Holland, is the consortium of the project. Currently, the project is in its phase two and would be in duration of four years, costing total of 650,000. Euros.
SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY ----------------
The staff of the department continues to render services in Textile designing and Garment Industries. Two members of staff have been rendering services to the Ghana Standards Board as interview panel member and quality control board member respectively. The curtains in the New Administration Block was designed and constructed by a member of staff.
PLANS ----------------------------------------
Very soon the department will be running the Bachelor in Technology (B.Tech) programme. In addition, the department hopes to run HND in Commercial Arts.
There is also the intention to establish a production unit for the tie-dye, batik and garment construction. All these intentions will be facilitated by the Nuffic Programme aimed at Capacity building for the Fashion Department. Three of our staff will go on further studies to obtain Masters degrees. |
