OVERVIEW ------------------------

The School of Engineering consists of four departments including

  • Building and Civil Engineering Department
  • Mechanical Engineering Department
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department
  • Furniture Design and Production Department

Each Department has a head who is supported by academic, technical and administrative staff to manage the department.

STUDENT ENROLMENT -----------

The School has 1500 students with an average of 400 students graduating each year. Below is a pie chart showing the percentage of students in each Department.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT ----------------

Members of staff in the school have benefited in terms of study leave and scholarships to pursue higher degrees in areas beneficial to the School and the Polytechnic as a whole. Sponsorship has come from the Polytechnic’s own internally generated funds, GetFund and Scholarship Secretariat.

Other aspects of staff development include seminars and workshops organized by the Polytechnic and institutions such as Ghana Institution of Engineers, Commonwealth Association of Polytechnics in Africa and Ghana Institution of Surveyors.

FUTURE PLANS -------------------------

  • Inter-departmental lecture series which started some few weeks ago would be further strengthened.
  • Two departments in the school have submitted proposals to the National Accreditation Board for accreditation to run Bachelor of Technology programmes in Construction and Automobile Engineering.
  • We intend to seek more funding from our collaborators.
  • Activities leading to capacity building will be vigorously pursued.
RESEARCH/INVENTIONS -------------

Inventions and research findings by staff and students in the School are well documented for reference by the general public.
