The Polytechnic’s main Library is located on the second floor of the N Block. Currently the seating capacity is about one hundred and twenty two (122).

Thus, space is still a serious problem in the Library as student enrolment has been increasing since 1995 when the Library was relocated to its’ present location. Library development has received a boost this year such that by the end of the year 2005 an Engineering Library will be located on the first floor of the new Electrical Engineering Block.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

The Library has currently about 18800 volumes of books. This is an increase of 11% over those of the previous years. This collection is still inadequate for the over 5000 students in the Polytechnic. However, we are still receiving more from Ghana Book Trust and Book Aid International of U.K.

SERVICES

The library opens throughout the year. During semester term the library is opened from 9.00 to 4.30pm. However these opening hours have been extended to 8:30pm due to the Part- Time HND programmes which start at 5:30pm and end at 8:30pm. The year under review also saw the Library getting student helpers who shelf books early in the morning. By their help, we are able to open the library promptly at 9:00am. It is our hope that management will maintain the honorium for these student helpers for some time.

VISITS

Various visits were made to the library during the year under review. The most significant of which was CAPA representatives from Kenya. From South Bank University, UK, also came a team for a visit. Reaccreditation panels for the following HND programmes -- Statistics, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Secretaryship and Management Studies -- also visited the library.
